Purpose

Crop sensitivity notes highlight how different crops respond to: - Salinity - Sodium and chloride - pH extremes - Nutrient imbalance - Root-zone stress

General principles

  • Young plants are more sensitive than mature plants
  • Fruit crops are highly sensitive to calcium transport disruption
  • Leafy crops show salinity symptoms rapidly
  • Rootstocks and cultivars differ significantly in tolerance

Calcium-sensitive crops

  • Tomato

Salinity-sensitive crops

  • Strawberry

Sodium/chloride sensitivity

  • Blueberry (very sensitive)

pH-sensitive crops

  • Blueberry (low pH specialist)
  • Brassicas (high Mo sensitivity at low pH)
  • Ornamentals with narrow micronutrient windows
